Commissioned Artwork: Venice Gondolas

I had an awesome opportunity to work on a commission piece for a client, JD from Florida.
He reached out to me because he purchased a gift a while back for his wife's anniversary and it was an artwork from a Collab i did with CB2, "One of a find" in 2013.
He wanted to see if i can do more reproductions, but since it was a limited edition run and sold out i gave him the option of doing a commissioned piece instead. I normally don't do random commissions, but i am glad i did- it's nice to know that there's a part of you that they want to share in their personal space, a perspective they can enjoy on the daily and if an artwork can add to the warmth which they already have in their own home- i am for it.

His wife had photos from their vacation in Venice, a gondola gateway which seem very
fitting since the piece they have in their home from CB2- is a urban landscape/skyline of
New York.

We decided on a image, got to work, made art & i'm
really stoked how it turned out.

Much thanks to the Hallam Family!!!

Durden and Ray @ Norte Maar Apartment Galleries during Exchange Rates

Exchange Rates is the first collaboration between existing artist-run and emerging galleries in Bushwick, Brooklyn, and Sluice, the London-based art initiative for artist-run projects from across the UK and Europe- “some exhibits will be integrated, some collaborative yet autonomous, some even spontaneous or virtual. The rates of exchange, as such, will fluctuate, while the currencies of exchange—ideas and culture—remain fixed.”

I was told, Mario one of the fabricators does an awesome job and he is indeed rad!!! I am really grateful and proud to have a piece residing at the US Embassy in the Philippines. Along the collection of Artist included are Leo Valledor, Carlos Villa and Ted Lincoln - people whom I admire and respect. Carlos Villa has been to me; a great Mentor, friend and many ways like a father to me. If he was alive today he would probably give me a warm smile and offer to get some breakfast at some divey filipino joint... and afterwards chuck a laugh. Carlos this one is for you. I miss you dearly and Love you!!!

Jayaratne Boy's Portrait

Jayaratne Boy's Portrait install

I did a commission piece for Jith & Ino Jayaratne, a beading portrait of their two young boys. I was really impressed with their set up. Their home decor was fabulous. Modern, Minimal and hits of colored art objects which really lit up the place. There were a few empty walls which Jith mentioned that he and his wife was looking at art to fill them. I am thankful and honored to be one the artist to have artwork reside in their lovely home. Big THANKS to the Jayaratne family for making this happen!!!

GETTING MY INK ON W/ EM SCOTT

I was fortunate to get my ink done by Em Scott @ Under The Gun Tattoo, she was very precise and the artwork was tedious and detailed. The artwork is the furrowed brow of David -Michaelangelo's masterpiece sculpture and portrayal of not a triumphant victor, but as a thinking, resolute being-- the preconditions  for victory. Halftones make up the picture. 4 and 1/2 hours later, i was really stoked of the outcome. i am really thankful she was able to actualized the concept and artwork. Thnxs Em for being awesome at what you do !!!

The Making of THE BEAD MACHINE@WOODLAB DESIGNS

in the process of drilling 5625 holes in this piece of aluminum

4" pegs

CUT TO SIZE

FIRST PLATE

FIRST PEG... 5624 TO GO...

IN THE WORKS...

I am working with a buddy of mine whom i went to school with back in the days of grad school. Jeremy is helping

me fabricate a Bead Machine. Using the general template and techniques of fusing beads together we created a

a machined jig that will allow me to work with multiple stacked layers of fusion beads

on the same image in a proficient and timely manner.

Basically a peg board with longer pegs and more work space to create reproductions.

Jeremy has been so kind to document the making of this process, The Bead Machine in the makingSo far

things are coming along smoothly.

I would like to share this with you and give a shout out to his shop out in Humboldt County for an awesome job. His shop is called WoodLab Design and the link to their Facebook:

CHI-TOWN was good to me, had a chance to walk the city and embrace the culture. Millennium Park was a plus with that enormous silver bean koons like sculpture piece- i defianately went to town with my camera on that thing.

The AC3 traveling show was awesome located in Chinatown district@ Art Revolution Gallery. The Art and people were very chill and had a great vibe going on- i had chance to hang with artist Artek and exchange dialogue about the differences in art and culture which was refreshing. For the most part, overall i had an great experience hanging and soaking what Chicago and it's energy had to offer. Thanks Chi-Town for a lovely night!!!

Next on the list. New York @ The Hole, Bowery District

This definitely started with a bang, a great send-off to start the tour. I am really stoked to be a part of it!!!

I also left a video link at the bottom of the page to share some studio time with you guys: the making of Ratonhnhaké:ton, aka Connor Assassins Creed 3. Enjoy!!!

Art of The Assassin:
A nationwide tour began at DTLA Gallery in Los Angeles. Ubisoft partnered up with Rock the Vote to celebrate the release of Assassin’s Creed III and gain the attention of the younger audience for the upcoming election. The theme of the show is inspired by the setting of the game: The American Revolutionary War. During the exhibit’s last showing in October, all art will be auctioned off and proceeds will benefit Rock the Vote.
